Here is a note about David and Emma

At the end of November David and Emma will join a small group of about 25 runners to race up to 150 miles on the Antarctica peninsular, entry to this race is by invitation only and requires previous experience in other similar events. Adventure racing has taken David and Emma to many places including the mountains and moorlands of Britain, Europe, Mongolia, The Gobi desert in North West China, The Sahara desert in Morocco, The Atacama desert in Chile, The jungles of North Vietnam, The Himalayas of Nepal and India and now the icy wastes of Antarctica.

Much of there training is with their two faithful friends and former long-term residents of the RSPCA, Jerry and Rosie.

Jerry on the right has trained with David and Emma for over 4 years where Rosie is more recent with only a few months since she left the RSPCA animal rescue centre on Clough Road. Both dogs were former “case” dogs both resident at the centre for about 10 months before going to live with David and Emma

The race is over 150 miles, but in previous years conditions with over 100 mile an hour winds and temperatures of minus 40oc have meant that the race has sometimes been “who gets the furthest, add to that a mixed terrain of deep snow, rocks, ice you can appreciate why many runners consider this race as the “Ultimate test”.

The RSPCA animal rescue centre on Clough road is a separate local charity and has to raise its own annual running costs each year, that is a difficult task in itself but like many people the centre was hit badly by the floods of “summer 2007”. The amount of work the centre can do is limited by the finances available and relies heavily on the generosity of people in the Hull and East Riding area.

David and Emma are trying to use this event to raise funds for the RSPCA centre on Clough Road, you can help in many ways, if you have access to the internet you can go to
www.justgiving.com/icerun and using a credit or debit card you can safely sponsor David or Emma, alternatively you can make sponsorship donations at the RSPCA centre on Clough Road in Hull or donate on one of the sponsorship forms being circulated in Hull and East Riding

David and Emma also do evening slide shows and talks on there adventures, which also includes there other passion for the mountains and includes Everest, Machu Picchu and many others, they do not take any fee or charge any costs, just a donation to the local branch of the RSPCA

Please Help David and Emma to help your local RSPCA
